Step 1

  • The first step in cultivating the attitude of gratefulness unto God is acknowledging those thoughts that create discontentment. It is only when we are discontent that we feel the need to change our circumstances in life, and without this discontentment, many of us would be satisfied with where we’re at. These thoughts create a sense of entitlement which leads to demanding what one isn’t entitled to receive because they have been “good”. This sense of entitlement produces feelings of bitterness, anger, and animosity.

Step 2

  • The next step in cultivating the attitude of gratefulness unto God is to practice gratitude or thankfulness for what you have right now. Start by being thankful every day! What are some things we can be thankful for? Be thankful that you were born into a family with parents who loved and cared about you;  for your health; l for what you have right now.

Step 3

  • The third step is to cultivate an attitude of humility and service unto God. Humility will lead you to a place where the needs of others become more important than your own desires, and this becomes a natural response when gratitude begins to blossom in our hearts because we are grateful for what we have right now.

Service is a natural response to humility, and service unto God for Christian believers will look like the following: serve your family; volunteer in your community or church (perhaps by visiting nursing homes); help those who are less fortunate than you  – showing love through action.

  • The fourth step is to cultivate an attitude of thankfulness unto God. This is the ultimate step to cultivating an attitude that will allow you to live a life full of gratitude and humility because this means seeing all good things as blessings from your Heavenly Father.

  • The fifth step to gratitude is not to compare yourself or others, for comparison can lead to discontentment when we realize that someone else has more than us

  • The sixth step for cultivation an attitude of gratitude unto God is by taking a minute every day to reflect on the events of your life, looking for what is good in them.

As you cultivate an attitude that will allow you to live a life full of gratitude and humility, you can develop the capacity to be grateful even when things don’t go exactly as planned because it’s not about how many blessings we have but about our attitude towards them.

  • The eleventh step for cultivation an attitude of gratitude unto God is by realizing that we are not subject to the “woe is me” or victim mentality and instead choosing faith-based thinking.

Step 12

  • The twelfth step is that cultivating an attitude of gratefulness unto God begins with gratitude unto oneself. That starts by practicing self-care in all areas of life – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Step 13

  • Start your day with a prayer. Prayer is like an anchor that helps keep us grounded and reminds us to be grateful for what we have daily

  • .Set specific times throughout the week in which you will stop everything else, take five minutes out of your day, and focus on being grateful for one thing.

  • Write down three things you are thankful for each night before bedtime. You will sleep better knowing all the wonderful blessings in your life that God has given to you!
