Reinhard Bonnke Biography

Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke (Apr. 19, 1940-7 December 2019) was a German Pentecostal evangelist, mostly known throughout the continent of Africa for his Great Gospel Crusades. Since 1967 Bonnke was an evangelist and missionary in Africa.

Bonnke had more than 79 million recorded decisions made during his crusades for Christ.
Reinhard Willi Gottfried Bonnke was born on Apr. 19 1940 in Königsberg, East Prussia, Germany. He gave his life to Christ when he was nine years old when his mother talked to him about the punishment for the sin he committed unless Jesus saved him. At the age of ten, he felt a call to preach the Gospel in Africa, and since that time, he has never lost his passion for preaching the Gospel in Africa.
His father, who was also a preacher and ex-serviceman in the German Army, did not initially pay any serious attention to Bonnke’s call to preach the Gospel. Bonnke studied at Swansea’s The Bible College of Wales, where he was influenced by Samuel Rees Howel. Bonnke prayed in one meeting after Howells spoke of answered prayer, “Lord, I too want to be a man of faith. I want to see how You provide for the needs of Your people.

Reinhard Bonnke’s Ministry

He pastored in Germany for seven years after graduating from Bible College in Wales and then went on to begin missionary work in Africa. It was at the tiny mountain kingdom of Lesotho that God set upon his heart the dream of’ the continent of Africa, being washed in the Holy Blood of Jesus ‘— a whole world, from Cape Town to Cairo and from Dakar to Djibouti, to enter and hear the announcement of the sign-following Evangelism.
Bonnke founded Christ For All Nations (CfAN),  in Africa under the umbrella which he preached in Lesotho in 1967. Afterward, he arranged religious gatherings throughout the continent.

African mission

Seeing poor results from his evangelistic activities and disappointed at the pace of his work, he had a vision of an image of the map of Africa spreading in red and hearing God’s voice crying “Africa Shall Be Saved” This vision recurred four nights in a row. It prompted him to accept evangelism on a full scale, rather than the conventional missionary method on a small scale. He leased a stadium in Gaborone, and the meeting recorded little cooperation from the local churches. The stadium meetings, which began with 100 people, began to expand sporadically.
Evangelist Bonnke began his ministry by holding meetings with considerable crowds to fill the tent. According to an account released by the Christian Broadcasting Network, in 1984 he ordered the construction of the assumed most massive mobile structure in the world – a tent which can seat about 34,000 people at the same time; this was demolished in a wind storm just before a big meeting, and the team chose instead to stage the event in the open air. According to this account, more than 100,000 people subsequently attended the gathering, which is much higher than what tent he previously ordered could accommodate.
