God strengthens us in adversity
Text: Isaiah 43: 2: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
There are times when we have the feeling that God is distant, insensitive to our condition. But when we turn to look in the Bible, we see that the Lord is close to those who invoke Him. We are never alone! It is fear that prevents us from perceiving that God is always by our side. In those situations, we must turn our eyes to God and not focus on adversities. Jesus is our north, our GPS. With him, we will never be disoriented when crossing the waters because, at all time, God strengthens us in adversity
The people of Israel went through adversities in the desert – all were overcome – and did not realize that God did not forsake them at any time. To get to the Promised Land, it was necessary to go through the desert. The town took 40 years to cross it due to the murmuring and bad decisions.
Contrary to the attitude of the people of Israel, Jesus spent 40 days fasting being tested in the desert and passed the test. Like Jesus, we will also go through deserts, and we have to prepare for those days. There is no way to cross a desert without reflecting on what happened. Adversity is not a perpetual situation, and tests are necessary for our spiritual growth.
Do not enter the desert without preparing:
- Develop the habit of reading the Word of God. It is a light ahead in the dark moments and will show you the way.
- Remember that adversity is momentary. Search the Holy scriptures. He comforts us, instructs us, and gives us the conditions so that we can overcome those moments.
- When it seems unbearable, cry out to God. Search for him! He is a present God and never forsakes his children.
eternal Father, please give me the strength to endure all adversity. Strengthen my mind so that I act with wisdom and discernment. I know that you do not place any significant obstacles to what I can bear, so I thank you for this challenge. You’re by my side. May I grow in you and magnify your name. Amen.
