The power and purpose of the vision
Text; Proverbs 29:18; Ecclesiastes 3: 10-11; 2 Timothy 1: 6
The poorest person in the world is the person who does not have a dream or a vision, and the most frustrated person in the world is someone who has dreams but does not know how they can carry them out.
Vision is a gift given by God. God has placed this gift in every person.
While we have this gift, it is our responsibility to fan the gift to flame (2 Timothy 1: 6).
We awaken this gift in various ways;
By developing, perfecting, enhancing, and simply using the gift.
This is why education is important. Though education can not give you the gift, it can help you develop, perfect, and enhance the gift so you can do it to the fullest.
When we revive the gift, we will be prosperous. Proverbs 17: 8 says – Precious stone is bribery for the one who practices it; Wherever he turns, he finds prosperity. Notice that the gift that God has given you is a precious stone. That is not something small, but something of great value in the kingdom of God.
Your vision is the key to fulfilling the purpose of your life. God created us with a purpose.
Let’s explore the difference between purpose and vision is:
- Purpose is when you know and understand what you were born to accomplish. The reason why you exist.
- Vision is when you can see it in your mind by faith. The revelation of God shows us the future that God proposed for our lives.
Ecclesiastes 3: 10-11 says – I have seen the work that God has given to the children of men to work in him.
Everything He made beautiful in its time; and he has put eternity in their hearts, without man being able to understand the work that God has done from the beginning to the end.
Ecclesiastes 3:10 wants to tell us that God has placed a responsibility, a job to be occupied in him. Here we see that we were born with a purpose. We exist for a purpose.
There is a feeling in each person that they were born for a purpose. Then he says in verse 11 – “Everything made him beautiful in his time ….”
God has chosen, he has determined, the time to fulfill his purpose in you. Ecclesiastes 3: 1 says – Everything has its time, and everything that is wanted under heaven has its time. God chose this hour so that we can fulfill God’s purpose.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 continues saying, “… and has put eternity in their hearts… ” This is a very powerful word. God has put his eternal purpose in our hearts. The vision that God has put in your heart is a piece of eternity.
In other words, God placed in our hearts what was already in His heart. It is this piece of eternity that motivates us, serves as motivation, to do the work of God, and to fulfill God’s purpose in our lives.
An important key in understanding the vision is that we realize that not only your purpose was given to manifest, but that the vision has already been fulfilled in eternity. In other words, for God, it is already fulfilled.
Isaiah 46: 9-10 says – Remember the things passed down from ancient times; for I am God, and there is no other God, and there is nothing like me, who announced what was to come from the beginning, and from antiquity what was not yet done; I say: My advice (purpose) will remain, and I will do everything I want;
Here, God mentions two things that He does:
- First, He establishes the end before the beginning. This means that He ends things in the spiritual realm and then begins again in the physical.
- Second, He reveals the final results of something when it has just begun.
This is why He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Many times we can not recognize the fact that when God begins something, He finished it in eternity.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 ends by saying – without man being able to understand the work that God has done from beginning to end. We have to know the order in how God works. First, He tells us that it will be the end of the matter, and then the process of fulfilling that end begins.
- An example of this is that even before building a building, the builder first develops an idea and a plan and then begins to build. Even before laying the foundation, the builder already knows how the building looks like. Before starting a project, you have to have the plans made.
- A painter, before painting, already knows in his mind how the drawing looks like. The portrait is made in his mind. He is only beginning what was already finished in his mind.
And that is really what it means to have a vision. See things as if they already exist. So it was with God when he made the heavens and the earth. Romans 4:17 says – … and calls the things that are not as if they were.
You have to understand that you are not an experiment. Your end does not seem at all like your beginning or even at any point of the process in your life. That is why we have to live by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5: 7). You look with expectation at what God has already finished in eternity. Because if not, only live seeing with your physical eyes and not the vision that God has put in your heart.
To finish, look at what God says in Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version) – Because I know very well the plans I have for you, the Lord affirms, welfare plans and not calamity, in order to give you a future and a hope.
