Today’s devotional: Servant leadership
Sunday 26th of January, 2020
Text: John 13:5: He poured some water into a water basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with a towel around His waist.
In our devotion today, Jesus demonstrated a higher form of leadership, different from the worldview of leadership by watching the feet of His disciples.
Servant leadership calls for absolute humility and leaving according to the pattern of the word of God. Jesus models this type of leadership character before His disciples so that they would understand that leadership is not lording yourself over the people placed under you, rather, Instead, it’s a call to serve the people humbly.
But what we find in most of our churches, government, homes, and other facets of life today is quite different.
Jesus again emphasized to His disciples in the book of Matthew 20:26-27 that :
“whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister, And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.”
Looking at yourself in the mirror of the word of God today, how would you describe your leadership style? Are you serving the people, or are you using your role to oppress and manipulating them?
Until we begin to see the emergence of servant leadership– those that will give themselves entirely to their subjects, those that will deliberately make their lives vulnerable to become a ladder for the people under them to fulfill destiny in Christ Jesus in homes, our places of worship, the government, etc., the world will never be in order as desired by God.
Anchor word for Today: Are you leading like Christ? Servant leadership is not possible without a heart of humility.

Lord Jesus, please forgive me of every abuse or misuse of power in the capacity of leadership You have placed me. And please help me, Lord, to humbly serve the people you have placed under me beginning with my own family.
Please, dear Lord, help our spiritual and political leaders to embrace the servant leadership approach as laid down by You for the betterment of the masses. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
